Sparks - Waterproof
Defying all logic and conventional wisdom, Sparks are releasing some
of the best material of their 35-year career. Taken from their
latest incredible album, Hello Young Lovers, this single is a superb
introduction to the band for novices and a joy for long-time fans. |

Shack - Cup Of Tea
Contemporaries of The La’s and The Stone Roses, Shack are the
spiritual forebears of cosmic Scousers The Coral and The Zutons. Cup
of Tea is a love song so utterly delightful that only the most
churlish will remain unmoved by Mick Head singing, 'My cup of tea
doesn’t taste the same when she’s with me'. |

Mogwai - Travel Is Dangerous
Having returned to form with the intense blast of six-string action
that was the Mr Beast album, Mogwai unleash the skull-crushing
Travel Is Dangerous EP. |

Soul Heaven Presents Digital Heaven
This
is one the best house compilations that we’ve had the pleasure to
encounter in a long time. By turns deliriously euphoric and
deliciously smooth, each track is guaranteed to do its do.
Highlights including Soul Central’s gliding In-Ten-City and the
wonderful Stuck by Pevan Everett. |

Jose Gonzalez - Hand On My Heart
New track from the Swedish troubadour who’s rightly been compared to
kindred spirits Elliot Smith, Nick Drake and Red House Painters’
Mark Kozelek. If quiet is indeed the new loud once again, then Jose
Gonzalez is Motorhead. Utterly lovely. |

Crazy
Frog - More Crazy Hits
Love him or hate him, it’s almost impossible to
ignore the amphibian with the pixelated groin as he delivers a
cornucopia of cover versions – including Ice Ice Baby, I’m Too Sexy
and I Will Survive - in his own inimitable style. |

Featured Artist:
Red
House Painters
Few bands from either side of the Atlantic have matched the emotional
intensity of San Francisco’s
Red
House Painters. Ostensibly a vehicle for singer-songwriter Mark
Kozelek, the band first rose to prominence in the early 1990s thanks
to the patronage of
American Music Club’s
Mark Eitzel whose championing of the group secured a contract with
the legendary 4AD label. Introspective and self-analytical, the
folk-rock of
Red
House Painters ran with the baton passed from
Nick Drake before handing it over to
Elliot Smith. Despite the passing of the years,
Red
House Painters sound every bit as good as ever. |

Competition - Win A
Long Blondes Tshirt!
The Long Blondes: The next chapter of Sheffield’s idiosyncratic
musical heritage: they combine the suburban disco fantasies of the
Human League, the opulent ridiculousness of ABC, the seedy glamour of
Pulp. Their new single,
Weekend Without Makeup, bares all the hallmarks of a
Long Blondes classic. The witty yet disturbing narratives, the
barely contained guitar lines and drum crashes. Like the
Slits playing Roxy Music or
Donna Summer reciting the collected works of Harold Pinter, the
Long Blondes are truly becoming auteurs of the perfect left-field
pop song.
To win the
Tshirt just answer this: How many Yellow Cards will Get you a Red
