Making his name as the bassist in American power-poppers Weezer, Matt Sharp left the band in 1998 and moved to Nashville, intending to cut all musical ties. However after a hiatus of four years, Sharp returned influenced by his new surroundings and showcasing solo material with an alt-country slant. This self-titled record, is the fruits of his Tennessee experience.

It may be winter outside, but Canadian all female foursome Pony Up bring a dash a light to the first first gloomy weeks of the cold season with their own brand of Alt Pop. Their fantastic debut album, Make Love to the Judges With Your Eyes is fine starter for 10 and worth a listen on chilly Saturday afternoon just so that you can brag you had it first when they're massive next year. Leadbelly

Huddy William Ledbetter was an American blues and folk legend. In prison for most of his life – once for killing a man in a fight – Leadbelly wrote most of his songs in his cell. Friend and inspiration to the like of Woody Guthrie, Lonnie Donegan and Pete Seeger, Leadbelly was big on the New York folk scene but wasn’t properly discovered until he was in his forties. The Mount Everest of Blues Singers is a compilation of his finest work from 1939 to 1946. From country blues to prison songs, from woman blues to children’s songs, most tracks here feature Leadbelly’s distinctive twelve string guitar sound.
