All long weekends require a soundtrack. It's the only way we differentiate the good ones by what was playing on the radio through the kitchen window when we dug out Swingball for the first time that year. Now it's your MP3 player and mini speakers, but the principle is similar. If you like joyous indie rock we think you'll like Johnny Boy - the band that caught our eye with their snappily titled single You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve. The indie-dance tunes don't stop there though - the self-titled self-released debut album is packed with songs we think are anthems in waiting. Recorded with help from James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers) and Liam Watson (The White Stripes) they obviously made such an impression on James that they're touring with the Manics this month and look set to cause a storm. Deluka

Here's an earworm for you. Deluka's 80s-fused 'scuzzy pop' single I'll Wait has been spinning around our heads for days now. With elements of Klaxons, Killers and a few other bands which don't start with the letter K, Deluka blend sleazy guitar riffs with sassy vocals from front girl Ellie. Don't forget to download the band's own remix of the single too.

The Brand New Heavies

By way of Atlanta, Georgia and Ealing, London came The Brand New Heavies. Bringing acid jazz funk to our ears since 1985, they've reunited with singer N'Dea Davenport to bring you a classic Stevie Wonder cover. There's loads of remixes to get your teeth into too, not to mention the album to get you back in the groove.

Emma Pollock

As observant (other people would call it 'overly obsessive', but here at Wippit we don't believe there's such a thing when it comes to music) fans may have noticed, Emma Pollock is no stranger to the music industry, being a former member of rock veterans The Delgados. Adrenaline is the first single from her debut solo album (it's called 'Watch The Fireworks' so keep an eye out for it on Wippit around September) and is very very lovely indeed.
