Cortney Tidwell

Here's a great album from the legendary !K7 label (if you're fan, we've got loads of the rest of their catalogue too), courtesy of Cortney Tidwell. She may be from Nashville, but she's not your typical country singer; Don't Let The Stars Keep Us Up is a beautiful album infused with delicate guitar lines and synthesised computer beats, not to mention Tidwell's stunning vocals. This is folktronica at its best. This has already become a bit of a Wippit favourite - see what all the fuss is about.

Magic Skool Bus

Magic Skool Bus are a hardworking band. Formed 7 seven years ago, the 7 piece band - complete with brass section - are a punk machine who never seem to stop touring (apparently getting plenty of praise, love and beer cake on the way). Their latest album Café Trauma (brilliantly available in both clean and explicit versions) sees them move away from their ska punk sound to a more brass punk (brunk?) sound - of which Well Duh! is a great example. Check it out.

Magic Skool Bus - cymbal competition!

Wippit competitions are back and with a crash. Magic Skool Bus have kindly given us one of drummer Rory's cymbals (fully signed by the band) - as used on the recording of the album, and over 350 gigs. To get your hands on it, just answer this cymple question...

Blonde Redhead

We don't know how (they've been around forever), but this one almost slipped past us. Produced by the legendary Alan Moulder, 23 has seen New York-based Blonde Redhead create a truly beautiful album. It's been scoring 9/10s from lots of top 'indie' reviewers, but we're not too cool to give it a whopping 10/10. If you're not sure, just download the lead title track and be memorised. Don't forget you can make a ringtone out of it too (for a bargainous 99p, the same price as an icecream, but with longer lasting pleasure) - just look out for the logo.

Taking Liberties Screening - Win Prizes!

We don't usually get too political here at Wippit but when a great movie hits out and demonstrates what freedom we're all gradually losing we have to get involved. We have two pairs of tickets available for a screening at Clapham Picturehouse (Tuesday 6th June) with a discussion afterwards with legendary Director Ken Loach and others and Greenwich Picturehouse followed by a Q&A with Director Chris Atkins.
