New in this week

Absentee - Schmotime
The debut album from Absentee blends the morose with tunes to die for.
Their blackly hilarious stories of rubbish sex, infidelity and lust are
offset by some of the sweetest indie-pop to have emerged from the UK in
the last 10 years and the result is a serious contender for Debut of the
Year.. |
|
Field Music - Write Your Own History
Field Music are set to be the biggest noise to have come out of
Sunderland since The Futureheads. Blending angular guitars with a
pastoral sensibility, Field Music are a breath of fresh air amongst the
smog of mediocrity. |

Dada Life - Big Time
Colossal dance monster just like they used to make – huge basslines,
skittering bleeps and massive rhythms ensure that this track from
Stockholm’s Dada Life lives up to its name. Utterly essential! |
|
Spank Rock -
Rick Rubin
Recorded
in a Baltimore basement and dedicated to the legendary hip-hop/metal
knob twiddler, Spank Rock reinvigorate hip-hop with a collection of
bedroom beats, sleazy rhymes that are at once defiantly old skool and
resolutely futuristic. |

Competition Time!
Luck shone on Neil who is now the owner of the Football Crazy CD.
Following the dissolution of the
legendary Beta Band, frontman Steve Mason returns with
King Biscuit Time, another superb collision of musical styles as
psychedelia, house, dancehall, electronica and hip-hop meet to create
genuinely 21st century music. We have five limited editions of their
debut album
Black Gold and to stand a chance of winning, just answer this simple
question:
Which video system lost out to VHS? Was it
a) Betamax?
b) Alphamax?
c) Deltamax?
Send your answer to us by
emailing
here no later than 5pm, Tuesday 16th May 2006! Good luck!

The popularity
of the joint Wippit/Profile Heaven Find A Model competition has been so
overwhelming that we’ve extended the closing date until the end of May.
Here’s how it
works: if you buy a Wippit t-shirt and model it on the UK’s premier social
networking site, Profile
Heaven, we’ll give you a full refund for the cost of the t-shirt. Each
week between now and the end of May, the Wippit Subscribers’ Newsletter will
be featuring our favourite ‘models’. Hey – even if you don’t fancy being a
supermodel for a day, you may well get to see a few!
The
latest competition winner is Elizabeth from Sweden and you can check out her
profile here:

So head on over
to our merchandising store, do your do and the next time it could be your
photo that wins! |

FEATURED ARTISTS:
THE GO BETWEENS
There was sad news of the passing of Grant McLennan at the weekend. With
Robert Forster, McLennan formed one half of
The Go Betweens’ song writing core. Having released their debut
album Send Me A Lullaby, the pair were rightly dubbed '…the Australian
Lennon & McCartney' before relocating to London from Brisbane in 1982
with drummer Lindy Morrison. Though commercial success eluded them, the
band released a series of critically acclaimed and highly influential
albums during the 80s that culminated with the superb 16 Lovers Lane.
Though musically estranged throughout the 90s, McLennan and Forster
re-united for 2000’s The Friends of Rachel Worth and in the process
inspired a whole new generation of bands. Last year’s achingly gorgeous
Oceans Apart album finally saw the band gain the commercial standing
that matched their critical success. |
